Car tax time again

phildraper

When I imported my car the import agent arranged the MOT and road tax. This needs renewing this year and I looked at the online process but cannot compete this as I do not have a Cypriot driving license and the web form requires this. Is there a way round it or will I need to attend the Paphos department of transport?

This is the portal to use

I have never put a driving licence number in to this portal.. just reg number . The ref number (Last 3 digits only) from section c9 on log book and the period for tax

Feel your pain Phil. I had a 3.2L SWB Pajero in 2002 and the road tax in CYP was PAINFUL!!!

These days it's a painless Qashqai.

😠during my search I found the tax disk for 2006. CYP 368.

Don't recall the exchange rate but that's a lot of € considering it was 19 years ago.

Toon

@Drambuie

I think at the time of Cyprus accepting the Euro the standard exchange rate was about €1.70 to the pound

At what point is a car regarding road  tax classed as a classic, and what are the cost of a classic car or is there no such thing ?

Toon

@jonathonkennard

In Cyprus, a car is classified as a classic if it is at least 30 years old and has historical significance in the automotive industry. The vehicle must be in its original condition or restored using original parts from its era14. Owners must obtain a FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens) certificate, which is issued locally by authorized organizations like LESPA-FIPA or OKAK14.

I'm considering bringing a car from the UK to Cyprus and trying to figure out how much road tax I'll have to pay once it's registered here. I found this official site for checking road tax:

👉

It seems to require a Cyprus number plate, but I’m still in the UK and want to estimate the cost before bringing the car over. Is there any way to calculate the expected road tax based on the car’s details (e.g. CO2 emissions, engine size, fuel type, year)?

Also, I know there’s a rule that the car must be owned and used in the UK for more than 6 months before importing to qualify for tax benefits. I can easily prove ownership with documents, but what’s accepted as proof of “use Would things like MOT records, fuel receipts, insurance coverage, or service history be enough?

Anyone who's gone through this process recently—any insights would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I know of many that have brought vehicles from UK. I did myself many years ago but would never do so again.

Is it really worth all the effort? There are countless vehicles for sale here at what I consider reasonable prices. Condition obviously depends on various elements.

Tax depends on engine size etc. I would certainly not consider a big diesel and see no reason to bring one.
