More bureaucratic pain

MacGeorge8035

We have been here for nearly three years and have jumped through many hurdles to obtain our immigration status, as well as our driving licenses.

So quelle surprise at the latest bureaucratic hurdle. My wife needs to renew her Cypriot Driving licence as she reaches a milestone birthday. She visited the Citizen Service Centre yesterday and made an appointment for today. The girl making the appointment was helpful and told her what documents to bring.

My wife duly arrived on time with the documents she was told to bring. But, she was told her biometric ID Card was not valid proof of residence, and she needed her original ARC document. In addition, she was asked to provide six months of bank statements and six months of bills.

So back again tomorrow.

Why six months of bank statements and six months of bills?

I am sure it is as usual the Western side of this island which I consider to be a "foreign land" full of their own rules and laws. My face seems to have done the trick at the local CAB. Long live the Eastern side of this Isle.

You said renew driving licence not exchange ...am i to assume the exchange had already taken place earlier and now that milestone age has been reached a new 3yr licence is required.

That's probably the reason why more hoop jumping is required ..it does seem that the west side of Cyprus is subject to.more stringent requirements ..why I don't know or maybe the East side is rather lax on it

@MacGeorge8035

You don't have a biometric id card ..You do have a biometric residency permit card so I am at a loss to understand the immigration officials reasoning on this occasion..it is your official residency permit ..as is everyone's old yellow slip certificates they cannot refuse to accept that as official proof of residency.... It's still valid as proof just you cannot use them for other digital access services unlike the biometric residency permit  cards

@MacGeorge8035

Don't you understand the reasoning?

Were you to receive a biometric card, driving licence etc without a great degree of stress, it would just be a piece of plastic.

Now after blood, sweat and tears. These items are regarded as priceless and a sign to others that you are not to be trifled with.

You are indeed a worthy recipient 😉

MacGeorge8035

@SimCityAT it was to prove we were resident in Cyprus. Even though we have our temporary resident card

MacGeorge8035

@Drambuie 😂

MacGeorge8035

@Toon yes it was to renew as my wife reach's her 70 in a month or so. We got her Cypriot licence about 9 months ago

Yeah, that's what I don't understand. I would understand if it were the first card, but for a renewal?

Probably being just bloody-minded, and after you left, they had a good laugh at your expense. Don't worry, we have them in Austria.

@Toon

Big Boy, totally lax this end. Think I did say my Biometric took7 days. Past 70 and have to do the normal 3 years for Licence. Totally relaxed about it. One letter from the Doctor which now is a print doc. Then my Doc signs it and bingo it is all over. Told you before come this side -- hahahaha.

@charles533

Sadly after many visits east side we couldn't find what we wanted ..so that ship has sailed my friend.

Not knocking the area there are some lovely areas but its just not for us...just as where we live is not everyone's cuppa..It is what it is...  it will suit some and not others.

As you know we have moved back to where we were a few years ago and are enjoying life again within our own space etc

@MacGeorge8035

Keyword might be "temporary" and maybe they've cottoned on to all those who wanted to stay more than 90 days but do  not actually want to be truly resident... So proof of regular spending here has been demanded for everyone

No matter what they ask you for you know when you go back they always ask for something more hoping to catch you out. This means they can get you processed and out the door much quicker than doing the job!

I have a file with absolutely everything in, bills, copy bank statements , telephone bills the lot. Each time a new bill arrives I pay it and put it in the file. The file is so big now I need a trolley to move it when I take it to every appointment  lol

@phildraper

A good idea ..best to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it

MacGeorge8035

My wife went back the second time yesterday. Spoke to a different person who could not have been more helpful. Did not understand why she was asked for the original ARC document or the bank statements .Got it all sorted, renewed licence in about a month.

@MacGeorge8035

Well done sir

Best idea is if you don't succeed try try again lol
