Digital Drivers Licence - Car Rental

Northern.Traveller

Hey Folks,

I hope someone can help. I am travelling back to the UK on an urgent trip. After booking my car yesterday, I noticed the rental contract requests a physical drivers licence, but I only have a digital one.

Does anyone know of any rental companies that can help with just the digital licence?

Cheers!

No, rental car companies generally do not accept digital licenses and require a valid, physical driver's license to rent a vehicle. Companies like Enterprise, Hertz, Alamo, and Thrifty explicitly state that digital or mobile licenses are not accepted and that customers must present a hard copy. You will need to have your physical, unexpired driver's license with you to pick up the rental.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

I  agree with SimCityAT.  One possible way around this is to use an Australian International Driving Permit, so check with the UK rental company and assuming they will accept it, you can get one from the Australian Automobile Association; this will take you straight to their website.

IDP's normally need a paper record of your driving licence from the issuing authority; to obtain a paper copy of your Australian driving licence, you need to contact the relevant road authority in the Australian state where your licence was issued to request a replacement or a printout of your driving record.

I hope this helps.
