I come from Jakarta , the capital city of Indonesia where traffic is very bad and the air is poluted , so I am happier here in Germany with empty roads and fresh air.
One thing that makes me miss my hometown is the food , here I have to cook what I crave for. Most of the time is ok since I like cooking anyways, but some dishes could be very complicated to make.

Every time when I visit Germany I feel very comfortable and yes, I can say happy. I am not sure why. Is it because I am a visitor only and can treat my visits like a holidays? All my troubles are then behind me so I do not feel overwhelmed and can enjoy of my staying. Or is it because there are many lovely pallaces, castles, wild nature and nice people, which say to me: Hallo and they smile? Or is it because I thought that no one will like me but it apeared not true?
I hope nothing will change when I will stay in Germany permamently.
However what I can say about locals is that their eyes are ...sad. People are nice and kind, no daubt, but there is something more behind that. Something what I can feel and this is not a joy. But maybe locals have different opinion about themselves.

I must say I am very happy in Germany. I love living here. Have been in Germany for some 35 years. Worked first in Frankfurt as a secretary, learned the language, and had a family. Naturally, there have been a few problems since I`ve been here, even went back to UK for 10 years. I returned and have been here ever since. I have had a few different addresses, and now live in Waltershausen, which is about 50 kms from Erfurt, near to Gotha. I love it here. The people are very friendly and kind. I am a musician, and there are here many opportunities to do what I love doing. I would not anticipate going back to live in the UK again. Only for holidays. Germany is great!!

I am truly happy here in Germany and grateful for every day. I am much more content here than I ever was in my home country (USA). My entire family (except for my husband and my dear friend - his mother!) is still in the USA, and _still_ I am happier here. I live in a small town, and life is simple and quiet.

I'd say German people don't _look_ happy (but I'm from a place where strangers go around grinning like fools), but they are content. They tend to not like change, so that suggests also that they're content with and accept the way things are. I think contentment is ok - maybe more important than happiness. Luckily, here I am both. :-)
