The best apps for expats in Hungary

Priscilla

Hello,

We invite you to share information regarding some of the apps that have helped to facilitate your move abroad in Hungary. This will help expats-to-be who are making the move as well.

Which apps did you use while preparing your move to Hungary?

What apps do you use the most for your everyday life in Hungary: whether it's for transport, managing finances, general information, learning the language of your host country, leisure activities, etc.?

How does this technology help you in your everyday life as an expat?

Which apps would you recommend to expatriates in Hungary and why?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I find google maps and google translate very useful to me and of course sat nav. I have also downloaded a variety of language apps from time to time.
I also fly a lot so use ryanair, jet2 and wizz air regularly.ย  And skyscanner for holiday dreaming.
Unfortunately I can't expand the memory on my phone sufficiently so I often have to delete to make space.

Duolingo is quite good for language training.ย  I've been learning Hungarian from it on and off for quite a while.ย  One of the Fluffyettes has been learning Spanish and she's really doing well with it.

Hi All,
Here're the apps that I found useful

1- InterNations - Meeting new people, joining fun events (dinners, tours, sports....etc.)
2- TripAdvisor - Nice app to find interesting places in the country, with reviews that help what to expect
3- Google Maps - For sure, driving, walking and also public transportation guiding
4- Waze - Navigation showing speed limits, radars, accidents, police.

Sorry to say you are one of many.ย  ย

And Hungarians are not immigration friendly unless you are Russian, Belarussian, Chinese or Korean and are working on a project like battery factories or nuclear power stations or probably the PM's palace.

And it's off-topic, this isn't the place to ask.

.... and plenty more examples.

False information might well alter a potential expats plans. Life changing information must be accurate.

I strongly recommend posters research this topic properly in order to reach an informed decision.

Politically inspired opinion is not that.

It's called sarcasm Fred.

Btw, I live here and know how to keep my ear to the ground. The visas situation has been widely reported in the proper press, especially recently for the Russians and Belarusians. It's an argument blowing up with Brussels.

Around here, which is typical Hungarian German village, many people from China have moved in during the past say, 5 years. We've just acquired a Chinese restaurant. We already had a Thai place. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see these places. Wish we had an Indian also. We've also got loads of Italian. But not that many Hungarian eateries strangely enough other than bakeries.

Our no. 1 Fluffyette is heavily involved in the Korean scene and knows many of them. Most Koreans are working on projects. Chinese will be the same, battery factories. Russians etc maybe nominally at the nuclear power station.

There are quite a lot of battery factories in progress but this is a bit odd as electric car sales are dropping. Yet BYD cars are becoming more popular.
