Ways to Obtain Latvian Citizenship
By Descent:
This is a common route for those with Latvian ancestors who were citizens on June 17, 1940, or have a parent who was a citizen of Latvia.
By Naturalisation:
- Permanent Residence: You must have been a permanent resident for at least five years.
- Language Proficiency: You need a good command of the Latvian language.
- Knowledge of Latvian History and Constitution: You must demonstrate understanding of the national anthem, history, and basics of the constitution.
- Legal Source of Income: You need a legal source of income.
- Application: Submit an application and other required documents to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.
Important Considerations
- Dual Citizenship: Dual citizenship is permitted in specific cases, particularly for EU, NATO, and EFTA citizens, as well as individuals of Latvian descent.
