Visiting Pompeii from Malta

GuestPoster563

Hello,
Can anyone recommend the best way to travel to Pompeii/Sorrento for a couple of days from Malta?
We don't have a car when in Malta but would hire one if necessary, or are rail/ferry/plane alternatives easier?
Many thanks!

No easy way I'm  afraid, car hire from Malta is not on as hire companies in Malta will not allow cars to leave the island.
There are flights to mainland Italy and you could then hire a car but it won't be cheap!
There is a ferry from Messina (Sicily) to Salerno (13hrs) but you still have the problem of getting to and from the ferry ports.

Perhaps someone else can suggest another way?

Thanks tearnet,
I couldn't see an easy way and wondered if I was missing something.
A package trip from a Malta travel agent (fly to Rome)seems the easiest way and quite reasonably priced.

Probably this option would be cheaper:
- fly from Malta to Bari with Ryanair;
- train from Bari to Napoli/Pompei/Salerno (TrenItalia: );
- if you want you can hire a car once you're there and do the spectacular Amalfi Coast.
Hope it helps!

Cheers
