Maltese reg car back to UK - help please

Benanddavid

Hi can anyone give me info on returning to UK with our British car that is now Maltese registered ? Driving back after 2 years here but not sure of the car procedure when entering UK? Also having a problem finding insurance cover for the trip back as apparently we are only covered for 2 weeks on our existing Maltese insurance & we are planning to take our time stopping off en route. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Reregistering a previously UK registered car in the UK is easy.

The insurance for your car will cover you for the whole trip but will revert to third party cover only after the two weeks.

There are UK insurance companies that will cover imported cars on foreign plates during the reregistration process.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the reply,

Are you able to identify Insurance companies that you refer to as being geared up to
Insure cars coming back home (with foreign plates) that are awaiting re-registration ??

Most of the big insurance companies will do this but try this agent for short term insurance on a foreign registered cars.

roadtripper

Asdas 5* policy is the only one that will cover roadtrippers with a car across europe for 365 days of the year. They do a twmp insurance that covers you for 90 day period.

If your thinking of shipping instead tey Trotters independent traders Malta they are great service and the cheapest I could find.
