Charge for Maltese Citizenship

kilo6667

Hi,
I am in the process of applying for my Maltese citizenship through descent (my Mum is Maltese and so was her Mum).  I have sent off all my paperwork and certificates and have just heard back that the forms have been altered and I will need to resubmit them and that there is also a €230 charge.  Does this sound right to anyone who has done this.  I don't have a problem with either of these things just hadn't read anything about charges when I was applying.  I need to get things sorted as I have my two elderly parents out there and would like to be there to care for them.  Any help would be really appreciated.
Thank in advice
Sue

Hi Sue. Are you in the uk? I did mine through London office. There is a charge. See link
Not sure if the forms have changed though in last couple of years. Good luck.

If you do a search on here you should find the answer to your question.

Hi,
Thank you for your quick reply.  That has made things a bit clearer regarding the charges.  Unfortunately I moved to France from the UK 5 years ago and being here makes things a lot more difficult to access.  I appreciate your help.
All best wishes
Sue

The forms might have changed, so if they say to use some new forms, oh well. And yes, that €230 charge sounds right. I recall having to pay about that amount when I went through the process. FYI, I had a wait of just about a year from filing+paying to receiving citizenship, though I applied in Valletta, not through an embassy.

If you want to be in Malta to care for your parents, you should be able to do that -- even if it means going to Sicily every six months to renew your visa. Good luck!

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.  Really helpful, I hadn't thought about getting my visa renewed in Sicily.  That is a good idea.  Lucky you at least you've now got yours worth the wait I should think.
All the best, thank you.

Hi,
Good luck with your application and your move to Malta.

Sometimes searching on this site may not give you completely up to date information.

The department that deals with citizenship has moved offices this week.

You may find more information on their website

In regards to visas, you may check with the Central Visa Unit

Most people do not need professional assistance to apply for residency, as the application process is fairly straightforward, however, the process can be time consuming so if you don’t have a lot of time on your hands it might be worth considering professional assistance. Also, an accountant can advise you what you are entitled to as well as help you with your move tax-wise

No one on here is advertising a job, look in the job section.
