Buying a car in Montenegro

Kenjee

Hi,

To be able to move in Montenegro, a lot of expatriates think of buying a car, whether new or second-hand.

What are the formalities to buy a vehicle in Montenegro: car registration, insurance, etc.?

What are the relevant authorities or organizations to contact?

How long does it take and what are the associated costs?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience,

Kenjee

Hi,
only option to register car on your name is to obtain resident visa first, and then you can do it. Transfer tax is 5% of estimated value (they have tables to calculate this). Registration for used car, engine until 2l, is around 320 euro, for bigger engines it is twice more, for smaller engines cheaper.
You can always keep the car on previous owners name, and to drive it with authorization, like most of the people does here (locals and foreigners, no body wants to pay this 5%).
