Hello everyone.
I would like to ask if anybody knows if its possible to get a sick leave certificate in Netherlands doctors using the insurance in Germany. My friend works in Germany however while on vacation in Netherlands she got sick and couldnt travel back so she called in sick. Can she visit a Huisarts in Netherlands or should she go to the ER directly or is it better for her to go back to Germany and do it there?

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

The Dutch don't have a sick note system as most other countries recognise; companies use a company appointed doctor (we called it "arbo arts", don't know if they still do).聽 Generally, if it's required to verify sickness; the company doctor contacts the employee directly and reports back to the company.

If she is still in the Netherlands and sick, then she should use her German health insurance issued EHIC card to go and seek treatment.

She can't be the first person this has happened to, so I guess your friend could contact the doctor directly and ask if he/she can help with a sick note, they will almost certainly charge if they do it.聽 Alternately, speak to her German health insurer and see what they have to say.
