USA specific question, how long does VFS keep your passport?

Howdy y'all

I'm going back to the US from my 90 days in Norway with a ring on my finger and ready to apply for the "fianc茅 visa" as soon as I get there. I was considering spending some time in other non-shengen countries while I'm there until I realized that VFS keeps my passport with my application.

I was wondering, does anyone know generally how long it takes for them to return it? I'd really love to do some exploring below the states while I have the chance since I won't be able to commit to a lease in the US anyway (idk for sure how long the visa will take, so makes no sense to sign a 12 month lease if I can approved in 7-ish). In case anyone runs across this in the future and needs the same help, my fianc茅 talked to UDI about a few things recently and one of them was this. It turns out they do not keep your passport, they only need the originals to verify the copies. They also said that by bringing the originals in with he copies that the copies will not need to be notarized because I am applying in the US, where I officially reside.
