Canada bank account for Canadian º£½ÇÂÒÂ×s in Norway

GuestPoster178

Hoping there are some expats in Norway from Canada that can help me out!

My cohabitation visa application is currently in process with my Norwegian partner but when I move I need to have a bank account in Canada to continue paying my mortgage as I own an apartment in Canada in which my parents are living during retirement. It is tough to see online which banks will allow me to keep an account when I will be permanently leaving. Does anyone have any recommendations based on similar experiences? I want to be prepared ahead so once UDI approves the visa I can reunite with my partner as soon as possible.

Also, if there are any tips from Canadian experiences moving (tying up stuff in Canada or getting sorted upon arrival to Norway) I appreciate any advice!

Thanks in advance!

In case anyone ever finds this in the future because they are looking for something similar... I checked with a bank I was using and they said I can keep my account as long as it is open before I move abroad (bank is CIBC). So for anyone who might be in this position in Canada that is all you should do. If you like your current bank, call them and ask what happens if you move abroad and they will let you know if you can keep the account or not (I know some banks will but others will not). If you don't like your bank or they won't let you keep the account then I can tell you that CIBC will, but open it as a Canadian resident ahead, then you will have it when ready to move. Cheers!
