Home loans for retired Americans in Norway

Do you know if a retired American, with a secure but fixed pension, would be able to get a home mortgage in Norway? If so, what down payment would be required?

what kind of visa are you expecting to have? Do you have any kind of savings for an initial down payment?

FWIW, I asked what kind of mortgage I could get as a long term resident (i.e. no residency restrictions) with income and no down payment with a higher than average income for the country, and was told 2 million NOK was the limit. That won't buy much in Oslo.
