Candomblé in Portugal ?

Strontium

Hi,

I lived in Pará Brasil and talking to Brazilian workmates was made aware of Candomblé and was given permission to attend a ceremony, I stood at the back but being 25cms taller than most people there I could see and hear everything. It was fascinating and didn't understood what was going on. I know some of the history but wondered  is Candomblé active in Portugal and does anyone on here know more about it?

The legality of these practices is not well defined in Portugal. There are events, I've occasionally seen one on a beach in Portugal, in winter, where there was only this group of about 30 people, and I that was running 50 metres away. If you look on the internet you'll find more information. There are pseudo mothers of saints, almost all from the Brazilian community in Portugal, who have no order of spiritual leadership, and who take advantage of people's ignorance and lack of knowledge, and see this as a way of setting up an easy business... where there are Brazilians and Africans there are these practices. Anyone who wants to can join in, but it's best to stay far away.... my humble opinion....
