AIMA appt update

vwcastleton

Hi All We have our D7 along with AIMA appointments and will be arriving in Portugal Nov 22nd. Our AIMA interview is not until early June 2026. I have read lots about documentation required for this interview, can anyone shed up to date info on what is required please as it seems it is always changing. I have also read that the Termo de Rewsponsibilidade now need to be notarised ? (we are sharing a home with friends so this document is in place of a rental agreement)

We have tried many times to register on the AIMA portal without any success..... any tips?

Finallty, we are retirees, do we need to apply for a Social Security number for the interview?

Thanks in advance....

Hi @vwcastleton, Welcome.

Until a while ago, the NISS was only compulsory for those who wanted to have some professional activity in Portugal, such D8, D2, D1, .... But recently, it seems that this is required for all types of visa, including the D7. This is mentioned on the AIMA website, and nothing is said about this NISS not being required for the D7:

You could try speaking to the social security call centre. They usually answer in English.

Request NISS online ( PT social security website):

Regarding Termo de Responsabilidade (Declaration of Responsibility):

This document, signed by your host (a Portuguese citizen or legal resident), confirms you will be living with them. It should state their full name, address, and contact information, as well as the duration of your stay. Regarding notarization, it is highly recommended to have this document notarized. While not all consulates or AIMA offices may require it, some do, and having it notarized eliminates any potential issues or rejections. The signature of your host should be "recognized" or certified by a notary or lawyer.

This post is already 3 years old, and was made at the time of the old SEF, which preceded AIMA.

@vwcastleton

Good afternoon,  my husbands application is with the solicitors,  waiting now for 2 plus years to get an appointment.

However, documentation required were as follows

2 passport pictures

Marriage certificate

Health insurance

Social security number and NIF

Proof of income, 6 months running

Proof of whete to live.

My husband is british, I am european so no visa required.

I don't know if this will help.

@4betterorworse,

Did your husband apply for a D7 visa? Or has he applied for a residence permit as a family member of an EU citizen? The OP refers to a D7 visa. Please don't mix concepts. The answer about documents has already been given in the official AIMA link I provided above.
