Acquiring the permanent residency, a story.

掳 I was told I could apply for the Permanent Resident status at the same time as the renewal of my temporary card, saving one trip.

掳 I had to satisfy the official I have minimal language skills.

掳 I had to provide a copy of my police record.

掳 Six months later I received the approval letter and was told to present myself to the immigration office.

掳 I was given a list of documents to provide.

掳 To the bank to pay a fee.

掳 To the finance office to pay a tax.

掳 Back to the immigration office to present the receipts.

掳 They were accepted and I was told to return in two weeks to make the picture ID.

掳 Will I get the card immediately or have to return again? Who knows?

More than 10 steps, but I'm almost there. 馃榾

I find the documentary burden in Romania (and it's pretty much the same in all Southern & Eastern Europe) onerous. The system endures b/c people are so busy JUST surviving, nobody has any time left to try to change the system.
