Some AirBnb hosts scam you with additional payments for alleged damage. Twist in my story: I was not even there, since the trip was cancelled. I was in the midst of an international move, and even despite the fact that I rented, and physically was at another AirBnb in another country, the platform sided with the scammer. I had used AirBnb for many years, for business and leisure. Never again.

I needed some work done on my house. I called one guy and he came and priced the work out of the ball park. Probably around €350 more than it should have been. A friend of mine who is Romanian called another firm and I was hiding in the bedroom when this guy came. He priced it reasonably. Only then did I come out of the bedroom and introduced myself. Everything was good until two days later he called me with a "revised" price. I asked why it was more. The answer "i need to send more men" The job is to fit a new shower enclosure screen and to also fit and wire in an extractor fan. His quote went from 2200 lei to 4500 lei. Needless to say I cancelled the job. Next one my friend called I kept totally out of it. Did the job at 2100 lei. No expat rates. If you've got a romanian friend that can stand in your place, use them. For sure you'll get it done at the right price.
