Are there any Thanksgiving Celebrations in Bucharest?

Bostonian

I am here only for 1 week and a half so far and was wondering whether there are any gatherings for Thanksgiving? I know it is only an American holiday so maybe an expat group here?

Thank you

As far as I can tell, the answer is - No.
Embassy folks seem to shop at the commissary and celebrate privately with each other.
Though it seems depressingly untraditional, Hard Rock & the Marriott at least serve American food.

Or you do that thing that new folks in town do all over the US... talk turkey and wait for the invite

And yes, there are dried cranberries at Carrefour but no canned pumpkin in sight

I think you have to find American families. I am an American living here for 4 years. We will try and do something at home. Bostonian? I am a huge Red Sox fan.

I still don't know if I'll be meeting with my few American friends in Bucharest! I've been here for 6 years and we usually celebrate at my place. This time, my bluegrass / country band is having a concert in the old center:

so I really don't know if I'll be able to join my friends. We set the concert fairly late in hopes that they would come after filling their bellies. Whether or not I get to sit down and eat, I'll still be doing something I'm thankful for, i.e. playing banjo.
I don't know of any other organized events. I've asked around, too, but even the Romanians working at the U.S. Embassy don't seem to comprehend the significance of this day. We couldn't even convince any event organizers to do such a concert, it was just dumb luck that they offered us a Thursday concert. I agreed after a few minutes of soul-searching.
There is one other possibility. Some hotels might have thought of it if they often have American business guests. That probably means rich hotels. But even they may well not have thought of it.
Anyway, welcome to Bucharest!
