CASH, BANK CREDIT and DEBIT CARDS in RUSSIA??

tartanjim

HELLO
I will be travelling to the World Cup in Russia and visiting several cities which will involve travelling extensively between the cities of
St Petersburg,Moscow, St Petersburg (again)
Moscow (again) then to Penza and then finally to Saransk.

Due to the large expenses involved and 'cash carrying' can expats please advise me the safest way to protect and pay for items in various places etc in Russia....what do YOU recommend as I don't really wish to carry a lot of money CASH with me. Can I get a Russian payment card if I deposit some cash with a Russian bank?
Does everywhere accept Mastercard American Express card and bank debit cards?

Your suggestions will be very much appreciated.
I look forward to hearing from YOU.
THANK YOU....Jimmy from Scotland

An Amex card will be next to useless in Russia, leave it at home. MC/Visa cards are usually fine.

Hi Tartanjim,

In Russia there is a good banking system. Visa and Mastercards are acceptable in many places.
