Relocating from America to Glasgow Scotland

Rick Galang

My wife and I who are now empty nesters in the USA, and have lived all of our lives in the USA, are now wanting to move to Glasgow Scotland.  We will be visiting the UK in October and will be looking at various places of interest to possibly move to within this next year, first planning to spend at least 6 months of next year living there.  We have studied lots of locations but the one we are most interested in, is Glasgow Scotland.  We are also Seventh Day Adventist and interested in establishing a church family wherever we end up living.  We are seeking advice and guidance from anyone who has made the move from America to Scotland,  Any advice and guidance will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much,

Sincerely,

Rick & Korina

Welcome,

Have a look at the forum; there have been quite a few posts about members wishing to move from America.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

I'm assuming you are US citizens and have no recourse to UK nationality.  As such, the UK does not offer retirement visas to any nation, so you have 2 options, find a job in the UK, or come to the UK as a visitor.  If you come here to work, you can apply for a work visa, then at a later date for indefinite leave to remain; this will take you to the UK Government website with all the details.  If you come as a visitor, then the visa is for only 6 months in a 12-month period, after which you will have to leave and not return for a further 6 months.

You mentioned a religious aspect to your move; there is a Scottish branch of your church; they have a website and this will take you straight to the home page, where you will find links on how to contact them.  Perhaps they may have some information that may assist you in your journey.

I hope this helps.
