New rule in renewing driver's licence

JJq8

Hi there,
Yesterday I went to Al-Assimah(Government) traffic department to renew my driver's license.
They told us they dont process applications without "Mandoob"!
Last year, when I transferred my Canadian driver's license to Kuwaiti one  I did it myself. I contacted my company and they said they have mandoob only for residency.
I dont know if this is a new regulation or only the guys mood in yesterday ?!
Any idea What I should do ? :I
Thanks.

Rule of thumb in government offices in Kuwait: Ask more than one employee. The range of answers you would get is sometimes astonishing, the challenge is finding the right one.

I renew mine just a week ago, without mandoob in the same place. Go to another person

Thanks all. As I was not sure when I can get it from Assimah office, I found a connection and got it from Ahmadi traffic department. I wish it was not that tricky  :|

when you renew your licence, is it expiring with your residency?

JJq8

No. They have different expiry date.
My drivers license is valid only for 1 year and i heard this is the case for now, new expats can not apply for more than a year!
The renewal process should be done much easier than this, it can be through internet or phone call and the expiry should be longer than a year.

I feel from your comment that you're new to Kuwait :P

You are right it should very much be so. But I think corruption hates technology ;)

Some ministries and government offices offer their services online which I was lucky to use several times. For sake of sharing knowledge here are a few:
- PACI: Issuing and renewing civil ID's
- MOI: Checking out expiry of residency, printing application for renewal, paying (K-Net) fines ... etc.
- MOE: Checking the balance and paying (K-Net) electricity bills.
- MOC: Paying (K-Net) telephone bills.
- MOJ: Paying (K-Net) the rent in cases of disputes with the land lord.

Incase anyone doesn't know, if you have a car fine you will not be able to renew your residency'!

Also, you can pay your fines online, however if it is 50kd or more you will have to go to Shuwaikh to pay it!!   Do not forget this! For us expats it's major !!
