Oman expats situation

Asif_Hassan

Hello All,

Oman is considered as one of expats friendly country. Last month 30 บฃฝวยายืs in Oman got Citizenship. taking the total number of foreigners to be given Omani nationality this year to 226, where as on the other side there is drop in the expatriate population in Oman exponentially. Numbers started to drop gradually in 2018 and 2019 before seeing a drop from 880,000 to 760,000 (almost 15 percent) over the course of 2020.ย  Further the travel bans & restriction due to corona has largely affected the expat population. Although restrictions are still in place across the sultanate, Oman has accelerated its Covid vaccination programme with the intention of over 70 percent of the population being vaccinated by the end of the year

Such kind of conflicting news present a very complex scenario for expat population in Oman.

What are your views on it and how the expats see these situation transforming in next 03 to 04 months?

Thanks & regards,

I agree with you. But due to Omanisation it's difficult to get jobs now. Also the cases of covid is increasing. They keep on implementing lockdown and travel ban for some countries. As of they are not issuing visa too. We cannot do anything but wait till the situation gets better. I am hoping that in the next few months it will be okay. Oman is a really nice country to work and live with. It's safe and people are friendly and helpful.

Corona has definitely affected a lot of things in Oman. Personally 90% of the western expats have left which I knew. Oman is a nice country and could be much much better and appealing in the future. Job possibilities are very limited, I cannot feel the buzz like in Dubai or any innovation happening here yet.

I'm not saying Muscat should be like Dubai at all but there are lots of investment opportunities as Muscat is still in the beginning of developing I think. Since covid,
lots of projects have been halted. I wish Oman to prosper after the covid situation. It has been hard on all the countries in this world.

Last summer I lectured about : " Failure of World leaders in Corona exam. "ย  justifying the tragic event not only from corona but also from the attitude and policies of World leaders who connive at public health and never give it any priority and are perplexed whenever a pandemic clicks.
Oman and Omani incumbents are not any exception

Hello,

I had a job offer and I was waiting for Oman to start issuing visas again. I have checked the news and it seems new visas started to be issued as of 01 September. Are these news correct? Can anyone confirm?

Thanks
