I need advice regarding work visa in Sohar

Hello,

I am a Malaysian and, former senior lecturer in one of the universities in the UK. I resigned as聽 I was offered a post as an associate professor in Sohar University mid July and am supposed to start on the 1st September 2019.

However, until now I was told by the HR that my work visa (along with other new staffs) is still with the Ministry of Manpower. Initially I was told that the visa process should take no more than three weeks (since 30th July). The most recent communication was a few days ago with the HR who told me that they are following up with the Ministry of Manpower and once they get it done they will contact me for further travelling arrangement.

I am a bit concern that there may be something wrong with the process that led to the delay (although was told that everything was fine), especially now that i have resigned from my current employer.

So, I am wondering whether anyone on this forum has the same experience of long waiting visa? Is this normal with the Oman government?

Hi,

It doesn't take that long. However due to Covid issue there was limitation on new visa, now it has opened again.

Visa issuance started already fir new hires similar to your case. Work visa subsequently will follow after the entry visa.

I think the ministry is only issuing visa to essential workers. All the others are waiting

I am also waiting for my new Visa for last 8 Months. It was temporarily stopped due to COVID situation.聽 It has聽 been said that it restarted on 29th Nov.

1. Did anybody get new work visa after 29th Nov 2020

2. If company claims that labour clearance is there and also GAMCA medical report of candidate has been submitted, how long does it normally take to get new visa issue from ROP ?

I am also looking for information regarding new Visa issuance which started from 29th Nov 2020.

Is ROP only accepting new Visa applications as of now or actually they have started issuing Visa ?

Did u come across anybody who got new work visa after new annoucement?

Well it depends,

If company has available quota for VISA the it would take not more than3 days.

i would like to start by saying DO NOT WORRY ... all types of visas including work where stopped by the country due to the ongoing pandemic and when they resumed this service there where loads of piled up visas to be issued.. i have worked in visa department in oman for quite some time and the process of new visa takes months for an establishment like college or universities and goverment established working bodies as compared to private companies . there is a whole channel that every new work visa has to go through .. so do not worry your work visa should be on its way soon. i hope this helps u .. if theres anything else you would like to know u can email me ***

I hope you are well. I have already interviewed with Sohar University since 15th July and I haven't heard from them. Do you think the decision took longer?
