Saudi marriage permission to foreigners (WAIT TIME)

Can people please post their experiences, or friends experiences with the marriage permission to foreigners? Especially those who got married abroad without permission and then applied after.

I am Canadian my husband is Saudi. We applied for the marriage permission after we got married because he didn't even know about such a thing. We told the embassy and they told us what we needed to send in. We did that.

How long does it take?
Has anyone ever applied from abroad with the Saudi embassy?

They told us going to Riyadh is faster but that was not possible for my husband to leave me.

It has been 6 months so far.
