Cost of living in Ottawa

Hey everyone! We are a young couple with a 5 year old and we are looking for a new place to live. My husband comes from Tunisia and we currently live in Montreal. We visited Ottawa twice last summer and really enjoyed it. We started looking for a place to rent to enventualy move there. I was just wondering why it is so expensive to rent an apartment in Ottawa? Even in Gatineau, its still pretty expensive to live compare to Montreal. How can some regular working people can afford a place there? Is it because people have better jobs and education?

Well it's better to not compare to the level of rent of other cities, but it will be better to compare the rent to the ''Household Income '' and ''Job Prospects''.

On other hand I think you will find cheaper rent in Gatineau comparing to ottawa.
