What is cheaper in Mexico?

jazzpaz

I recently moved from Houston, Texas to Saltillo, Coahuila with little more than my wife and my dog.

All the advice l heard was to count on replacing what we needed once we arrived.

I'm appealing to those who have more experience here to guide me  to all the great bargains. The Walmarts, Home Depots and Office Depots are are exorbitantly more expensive here than in the USA. A plastic box to store bread in is 4 - 5 times more here. There is not a fly swatter to be found at any price. Even groceries are more costly, which really surprised me.

Even if I have to go without my needs met l am glad to be here, but l would sure appreciate some insight.

Must be a saltillo thing... here in lake chapala.. I buy fresh never frozen fresh beef from my butcher filet... 5usd a pound.... liter buckets of fruit raspberries, blackberries, strawberries for a couple usd.  I get a tripple smash burger with local fresh never frozen beef with fries fresh cut at the restaurant for 8 usd.

We went to Guad to buy the little furniture we have other then a few pieces we found used.  And we payed sooo much less than we ever did in the USA.  We bought a washing machine max size and dryer... both cost us 60% of what it would in the USA.  I think your getting gringo priced like a mad man.

And everyone tries to say Lake Chapala is more expensive than the rest of mexico.  What your saying makes me see its far from that.

I suspect it's a "no car thing". I sold mine in Houston before we moved because my residency is permenant, so I couldn't drive it into Mexico. I'm seeing that I am missing out on a lot more than grocery deals by not knowing the city. I will have to buy a car here.
