I’m Rifa Rachman Kurniawan, and I’m excited to join this forum as I explore opportunities to work in Australia through a visa sponsorship. For me, this would be an incredible new experience, both professionally and personally.

I have professional experience as a Utility Maintenance Operative and WWTP (Wastewater Treatment Plant) Operator, where I was responsible for ensuring smooth operations of industrial facilities, conducting equipment maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and adhering to safety and environmental standards. These roles have honed my technical skills and problem-solving abilities, particularly in managing critical systems within industrial environments.

With my expertise and commitment to maintaining operational excellence, I am eager to contribute to companies in Australia that require skilled professionals in these areas. I believe this opportunity would not only allow me to grow my career but also enable me to immerse myself in a new culture and environment.

Looking forward to connecting with you all and learning from your experiences!

Hello! I’m a physician, educator, and humanitarian with a passion for serving others and solving complex challenges. With three years of experience in emergency medicine across Sudan and Egypt, I’ve developed the ability to act decisively under pressure, deliver patient-centered care, and lead teams in high-stakes environments.

Beyond clinical work, I spent two years as an assistant physiology lecturer at Nile University, where I mentored students, designed engaging lessons, and cultivated a love for learning. My commitment to community impact also extends to refugee support and nonprofit work, where I’ve provided psychosocial aid, crisis intervention, and advocacy for vulnerable populations for more than 8 years.

What drives me is the chance to merge my diverse skills—critical thinking, adaptability, and cross-cultural communication—to create meaningful change. Whether in healthcare, education, or social impact, I thrive where collaboration and compassion meet action.

I’d love to connect and explore how my background aligns with your goals. Let’s chat!

Salvatore Frenchy

Hello everyone,

My name is Salvatore Sansalone, I am 52 years old and currently living in France. I am planning to come to the Sunshine Coast, Australia, around September 2025 for a 4 to 6-month full immersion program to improve my English skills. I have a background in both commercial sales and mechanical engineering, with over 20 years of professional experience.

My main goal is to attend a language school (most likely Lexis English in Maroochydore) while working part-time to help support my stay. I’m particularly interested in any advice, experiences, or opportunities regarding work and accommodation in the region.

I would also love to connect with other expats who have followed a similar path, especially those involved in mechanical trades or hospitality. Any tips about life in the Sunshine Coast, transportation, and integration would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to connecting with you all!

Warm regards,

Salvatore

Hi everyone,

I’m originally from the US and my family and I relocated to Sydney last year. Like many of you, we learned quickly that moving overseas is part adventure and part headache—lots of excitement, but also a fair bit of confusion along the way.

That said, we love being in Sydney and being part of the “international†community.

Honestly, the hardest part of the move was the actual move!

That experience left me thinking a lot about how expats like us cope with uncertainty and the importance of sharing information.

I’ve since been tinkering with a little side project (not here to pitch anything yet, don’t worry!) that grew directly out of that frustration. For now, I’d just love to swap stories with others who’ve gone through the international shipping / container shuffle:

What was the most confusing part of your move?

Did you ever feel like you were in the dark about what was happening?

Any hacks you discovered that made it easier?

Looking forward to learning from all of you and hopefully contributing something useful in return.
