05/26/24 Welcome @HawkeyeSwarm. I don't live in BH, but it's one of my favorite cities. I hope that you'll be happy there.
@HawkeyeSwarm As a word of encouragement, I live in an Assisted Living Compound in Northeastern Brazil and it has been the best time of my life, Not only is it possible, but I certainly encourage it as a very positive landing spot for your family.
Roddie in Retirement
Hi all, Brendan from Canada.. My (Brazilian) wife and I are considering a move to Natal (Rio Grande de Norte) from Toronto Canada. Just wondering if anyone in this group has some feedback on "living in Natal"... Another personal point, although I recently retired, I do want to continue sporting activities like Golf and Pickleball. I am not sure how much these activities are available in the Natal area, if anyone can comment, that would be great,
Cheers, Brendan
@bcummins
Hi Brendan, and welcome. To the best of my knowledge there are no 18 hole golf courses within easy reach of Natal. The closest one is in Recife, about 3.5 to 4 hours drive. This one was built by the British about 100 years ago, although the final 2 holes were only completed quite recently. I have a number of friends who play, or are members, there, and they say it is ok. Alternatively close to Fortaleza, about 7.5 hours drive. Golf is simply not as popular in Brazil as elsewhere in the world.
Pickle Ball is played in certain places, although it is nowhere near as popular as beach tennis.
06/05/24 Welcome, Brendan. Best of luck in Rio Grande do Norte.
Hello;oi; im in Washington state, was living in Brasilia DF so many years , have some family there like cousins, uncle, aunt, good friends, that’s my target to retirement there, also i have a  daughter from Brasil, language will not be a obstacle for me , just be a decision ., understand that leave a comf zone its difficult sometimes but not impossible.
Every year i get in Brasilia to see family , I can tell that living in Brasil its really nice , good people,  food , good places to visit and have fun , open minded people and culture instead to liv inside a social bubble in Usa .
Im happy to be here in this forum,  was inside other expat forum but not answer to most of members .
Thanks

OK - I don't understand either golf or pickleball but maybe a nearby golf is Ãguas da Serra Golf Club in Bananeiras, PB (a LOT of people from Natal have second homes in Bananeiras) and "Beach Tennis" (pretty much pickleball) is taking the northeast by storm. My interior city in Paraiba has no less than 3 major Beach Tennis places.
Search up Bananeiras on Google maps and look for nearby golf and you'll find two clubs. Beach Tennis is everywhere.

06/05/24 @Hugodc2000. Welcome! Sounds like your an old Brazil hand. Best of luck in the DF.
Oi pessoas!
I moved to Vitoria about one month ago to live with my girlfriend. Reminds me a lot of my hometown (San Diego, CA) but without the Sunshine Tax!
I am just starting to get settled here but am now focused on learning Portuguese and finding a job, both of which are certainly not easy. Everyone I am connected with here is in offshore oil so that might be in my future, but open to advice if any have it.
Cheers and look forward to getting to know yall!
Ben
06/09/24 Welcome, @bravokiloromeo. Vitória is one of my favorite cities, and ES is one of my favorite states - enjoy! If you're here on a tourist visa/ visa waiver and hope to become a resident, be sure not to leave your immigration planning to the last minute.

Hi guys!
I'm a software engineer who moved from Spain to Brazil with a digital nomad visa, who knows if I will stay longer in the future!
It'd be nice to connect with people in a personal or professional matter. I'm between Campinas and BH, in case someone is around there.
All the best!
Hi,
I’m a mostly retired IT project manager living in Ilhéus.

@bennyllero I am a recent Brazilian Permanent Resident, living in Northeastern Brazil and my younger brother is a Real Estate Developer in San Francisco who would like to move to Spain on a "Golden Ticket"?

@roddiesho I think the Golden Visa is still available in 2024, but I read the government was thinking of abolishing it, so I don't know how longer it will last. But if he makes it, he will enjoy a really nice country to live (in my opinion )

@abthree Thanks! I agree. The only thing that I don't like that much is the massive slopes
Last month my wife and I just moved to Brazilia Asa Sul from Oregon/USA. My wife got a 2-year teaching contract and in the past I have worked remotely. Currently my employer is trying to decide if they can continue to employ me from here. I might have a lot of time on my hands, so am open to º£½ÇÂÒÂ× meet-ups. I might try being a Math tutor for HS kids.

Hello 🤗 Ben, I'm from Augusta, Maine. I would arrive in Sao Paulo in the morning on August 28th and depart in the evening. We can meet there if you're available.

Hello to everyone !!!
@Nomad Mundo Ouch, I thought be raised in Rhode Island was cold enough.
Roddie in Retirement
@roddiesho
There is a rich history of RI, with several buildings that predate, elegant gilded period homes, antique tall ships, and interesting forts. People think Rhode Islanders are frigid, but I have not found this to be the case. Simply work diligently and be courteous, and you'll fit right in. I can't get over how stunningly gorgeous the state is. Those craggy coastline and fascinating beach houses are well-kept middle-class homes and rural locations that imitate fabled places.
I'm struggling to visit the northern region due to the dreadfulness of time and luck, nevertheless I'd love to come to you for chat and beer. My parents died a decade ago, and I feel at ease and delighted to be with my people.
@Nomad Mundo You will definitely experience "Culture Shock". Sao Paulo is not quite the same temperature-wise as where I am in Northeastern Brazil, but here in Ceara it is 84 degrees EVERYDAY and ALWAYS SUNNY, no overcast.
If you move fast enough, you can sell your return ticket on EBAY.

@mike roe Hi Mike! I'm also from Oregon originally! I'm also switching jobs and have thought about teaching! We should keep in touch! Interested to hear what you find! I have a degree in Math and have also thought about doing the TEFL (teaching english in a foreign language) program.
Hi,
I'm Ginny from England. I am moving to São Paulo (city) next week to start working at a start-up there. I'm sure I'll have many stupid questions as I navigate this move! It's a pleasure to meet you all. I'd love to meet up with anyone living in the city too.
Ginny
@Ginny13
Hi Ginny - welcome! We are also Brits, been here over 17 years, but live and work on the tropical island of Itamaracá in the NE.
08/19/24 @Ginny13. Welcome! Best of luck with your new job in São Paulo. It's a fabulous city, here's hoping that you'll find some time to enjoy it. Sounds like you'll be pretty busy, though.
Hello all! Im Kevin from Canada. I’ll be moving to Ubatuba in the near future. I am semi retired and looking forward to spending my time in this beautiful country. I have spent time in each state from the border with Uruguay to Maceio. I stayed 3 months in Sao Paulo and decided that Ubatuba checks all my boxes. I appreciate all the input from my questions that may arise along this journey.
08/20/24 @Kevin Bakker. Welcome! It sounds like you've done your research: all the best in your new home.
