My Name is Hillary Fernandes, i am born in India Holding a Portuguese passport. my fiance is brazilian and lives in Guaratuba. if we want to get married in Brazil what documents do i need to have to get married in Brazil. please let me know.

Good afternoon.  You can find all the information you need about getting married at this site.  Every cartório (registry office) operates a little differently, so after reviewing the site, your financé should check with the local cartório for any minor differences in their procedures:

@iccemanhillary @abthree  Excellent Breakdown as usual. My experience seems to be as the outlier aka What will go wrong will go wrong, so here are some things to look out for.

# Double Booking...Amazingly even though I was quoted 4-6 weeks for the FBI Background Check to be apostilled, apparently it came to Brazil while I am still in the USA fixing complications. Great News, but it appears they that they charged me twice. Once on booking, again on delivery.

# Send it this way...These are extremely important documents; however you cannot have them tracked or sent UPS / Fed Exp. unless you make arrangements before. There will be times when you are at the document location, but will then have to get a USPS Postal Money Order, Cash etc. Good to find out details before.

# My name is Bond, James Bond...or something else. Verify before you go that the document is actually in your name. I spent an extra two weeks in the USA, because my Birth Certificate was actually in a previous name and the change had never been made, even though the change was made on other documents aka passport.

# Previous Life....This one can be touchy, but if you or your potential spouse have either used different names or been married previously regardless of if you are aware of it or not, this will come up and create challenges for you.

Are you in Brazil now?  In Brazil you get married at a cartório.  In our case, we paid the notary to come to our house.  A church wedding is optional, and is not the legal wedding.

Since every cartório does things a bit differently, it's best to go to the one of your choice and ask them what you need. I was in the USA and my fiancé was in Brazil, so that's what she did.  Got a list of documents and I supplied them. If you want a church wedding also, you have to go to the church where you plan to get married and ask them.  They don't all have the same requirements.
