It is not at all easy for foreigners to find work in Brazil since the law here requires that all employers prove that they have exhausted all efforts to place a Brazilian in a job vacancy before they are permitted to hire a foreigner to fill it.

It's a bit easier for anyone who has a degree in a STEM (science/technology/engineering/mathematics) field of work. There is a bit more flexibility in hiring of skilled professionals.

In your case being a qualified and experienced chef you should not have great difficulty in getting work, the problem will be looking for it and also communicating your availability. Your best and most simple option would be to contact the hotel chains you've worked for at home and see if they can help you find a position here in Brazil or at the very least put you in contact with the right people in their chain's HR Department in Brazil.

You will need a professional looking CV/Resum茅 that is in Portuguese and a cover letter in Portuguese too. You can also send those to major hotel chains here in Brazil via e-mail or fax too, even if just on speculation that they may have a job opening.

With two international sporting events coming up shortly, World Cup 2014 and Olympic Games 2016 the entire hospitality industry is starting to gear up now, so the sooner you get started the better your chances will be.

One important thing you must do is to start learning the Portuguese language immediately, it is essential to speak the language reasonably well if you plan on working here. English is not widely spoken in Brazil, even in business so if you want to work you need to be able to communicate with the people you work with and work for. There's no way to get around that.
