Bank account question

jamesbonze

Hi everyone. I'm planning to move to Paraguay at the end of the year and continue working as a digital nomad. Once I get my temporary residency and my Cedula, I’ll need to open a bank account. My problem is that I can’t prove regular income from my freelance work. For example, I might receive a transfer of $5,000 or $10,000 (just as an example), and then not receive anything for several months. Has anyone here dealt with this issue, and does it cause any problems when opening a bank account ? Thanks in advance for your responses.

For the basic account, you will be fine with just the cedula; they don't require any additional documentation.

If you need a complete account with international transfers and a dollar account, it is a different story. Not impossible, but very few know how to swim in these rivers.

Unfortunately I really need international transfers and a dollar account ! And of course a Mastercard or Visa

Got it. It’s essential. With the right connections, getting the international account is doable. What’s your citizenship? What your residency agent suggested you to do?

jamesbonze

I'm French.  My agent tell me the same as you do. That's the reason why I try to gather information (some tips) from expat people used to be in the same situation.

He should have the connections or use a different agent. It is something you should demand before giving someone money. What kind of value does he provide if he can't get you started with what you need?

I have both credit cards and swift USD accounts.

jamesbonze

For the moment he doesn't ask for money. Only once I'll be in Paraguay and once the administrative tasks will be done.

Can you provide a link for a good agent please ?

Send me DM, maybe I can help you.

Thank you for your proposal. After some consideration, I have decided to use my existing bank accounts to send and receive international transfers, and then convert what I need into PYG before transferring it to my future Basic account, or simply use my Master or Visa to pay localy. Thank you for your help nonetheless.

No problem. Good luck with the tax authorities in France.
