I admire your "glass-half-full" view of Brazilian cuisine. I volunteer at an "Atelier de Gastronomia" here in Niterói that features a large stable of professional chefs preparing foods that inspire home cooks. In many ways, ... Read More

Since I joined this site.I read post after post from expats living in Brazil. They talk about how bad the traffic, crime, roads, people, starting a business, buying a house ,getting a job, the weather ,cost of living in some cities .So why did you move ...

Homeschooling by Melodynava
I read that homeschooling was illegal in Brazil. Does that apply to Americans as well. We will be there on missionary visas, if that makes a difference. Thanks so much for your help.

Why, why would you think the law applies to everyone but "Americans?" Gotta shake that perspective if you are going to get a handle on living abroad... There are many positive socializing reasons children do well to be enrolled in a school in the ... Read More

Rio das Ostras is a bit far. You are not moving to Brazil to recreate the commuting stress of the States, I presume. ;-) I can't say exactly, but I had a conversation with an expat who's husband works in Macaé (different person than the one ... Read More
