Wendy

Yep, PNG is INSANELY expensive. Unless your company is providing accommodation, it's difficult to just come and "live" here. It even makes traveling difficult for us pseudo-volunteers as hotels, flights, food, is so pricey. But, it's all what you ... Read More

Dogs by KT'sMom

Hi I am looking for a young dog or puppy to grow up with my daughter. Ideally I would like a Rottweiler. If anyone knows of a breeder or has a dog they can't take back home, please let me know. -K

Wendy

I wonder how hard it would be to get a dog from Lae to POM? I know a family here had puppies that they were trying to find good homes for.... That was a bit ago, but I know it comes up from time to time.... Hmmm.... Read More

Practicality of moving pet dog from NZ to PNG? by Nay82

Hi there! Can anyone comment on how easy or otherwise it is to bring a dog into PNG? Is it common to have pets there? Is expat housing generally suitable for a fairly active 2-year-old collie-X? Any advice will be gratefully received! Thanks, Nay

Wendy

There are people that have brought in dogs. It's all about finding the right accommodation. Also, it's fairly easy (I've heard) to get animals in, but difficult to get them out (quarantine issues outside of PNG). Be sure you'll be here a while. ... Read More

PNG life-moving to port moresby by ohmygiz

Hi. I've worked in Dubai and Libya. Now, thinking to move to PNG hopefully in few months. Pls tell me how's life in port moresby in terms of recreation/entertainment and safety? is it safe to take a cab alone? Is there a mall? thanks.

Wendy

A mall? Uh, not exactly. There's a "shopping center" that was recently built. You can get what you need, and the rest is whatever you can find in terms of "want". I took a cab there once by myself. Some would argue against it, but I didn't ... Read More

Wendy

I'm in Lae and compared, POM is WAY better. I have a Digicel usb modem that works fine and it's linked to my post-paid blackberry account. If you look on my blog under "internet" you should read all my issues and how far we've come, as well as ... Read More

POM has quite many families. And they have international schools. With that age, your family will have plenty of things to do. I'm in Lae, so I'm not as familiar with POM, but it's got a very large and social expat community. Wendy Read More

We've got three hospitals, but, um, my advice? Go back to Aussie for the baby. Don't risk it. I only know of one expat that had their baby here. There are a couple of pre schools, so that's fine. What kind of questions do you have? What ... Read More
