Opening a Bank Account in Mauritius

KirtiV

Greetings,

How does one open a bank account in Mauritius without a utility bill ? I've checked  MCB and Absa. Both require a utility bill in my name in addition to the MRU passport and ID, both of which I have.

Thank you,

Kirti

Hello,

Do you live in Mauritius ?

I am not a 100% sure that you need a utility bill. I forgot mine and they still opened my bank account. Call the bank and and ask if it is compulsory ?

Sorry to be blunt but you must live somewhere right? Who is the owner of that property?

You need a proof of address in line with the requirements of the FIAML Regulations.

It is not necessary for you to have a utility bill in your name, for ABSA bank. Presume MCB would be the same.  If you have a lease agreement, the bank will need a copy of your lease agreement, a utility bill in the owners name and a copy of the owners ID. You will need a residence permit of some sort too.
