Difference between LTVP or DP

Jvw

Hi to the group.

Wondering if there鈥檚 any big differences between LTVP and DP, would one be preferable to the other?

Looking to relocate to Singapore from NZ, my employer will soon apply for my EP.

Will be bringing my fianc茅 and our son. My son will be DP but as my fianc茅 and I are not yet married I understand he needs to be LTVP.

Would there be any benefit in us bringing wedding forward and getting legally married before coming to Singapore, so he would therefore be DP(?)

Thanks

Right now, there is no perceivable difference between the two options, which are not meant as alternatives to each other聽 (since one is for married and the other for non-married partners - and a couple can never be both).
But until recently there were differences, especially regarding the right to work. And nobody knows what the future will bring.

I think another material difference is who the sponsor of the DP or LTVP is.

My understanding is, if you are an EP holder, your fiance and son may only be eligible for the DP.

If you are an SC or PR, then your fiance and son may be eligible for the LTVP.

During the LTVP process, you can apply for a pre-approved letter of consent (LOC) for your fiance to find work if they choose to do so. Whereas under DP, your fiance will need to find an employer that will sponsor them foran EP or WP if they would like to work in Singapore.

LTVP holders are also entitled to some medical subsidies.

J should have added that bringing forward your wedding may not help as I think to 鈥済uarantee鈥 an LTVP you will need to have been married for 3 years.

But you have a son together, perhaps showing some documentation to show your de facto relationship may assist? (Joint bank statements, bills, son鈥檚 birth certificate etc.)

Thanks both for your replies.

I was under the impression that as we were not yet married, that LTVP was the only option for my fianc茅.

either way I will find out soon when we apply :)
