Hi again, Emerald Bay77554.

Did you have time to familiarize yourself with the link I had provided earlier? It would certainly be to your advantage to review the pertinent sections of that "Vietnamese Family Law Act" prior to meeting with a lawyer. Well informed is well armed.

There are a number of solicitors listed in our business directory, many located in Ho Chi Minh, some of which specialize in family law.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Since you previously described your relationship with the mother as broken, I think it's worth saying that you are still in control of the situation and really shouldn't need a lawyer to make sure that you are listed on the birth certificate as the father.

Is that threat being made, along with the other "threat" of violence by her family?

If so, it's a total bluff (the part about keeping you off of the birth certificate).

If someone is telling you that you are not going to be on the birth certificate unless you marry them or give them money or both, that is a total crock.

The automatic US citizenship of your child is priceless to that family, whether or not you ever marry the mother.

So, whether or not you get married and whether or not you ever give her money, they will do everything possible to make sure that you are listed as the legal father.

They can then hire a good Vietnamese lawyer in the United States (or possibly one here in country) to legally establish your child's citizenship through the filing of appropriate documents (record of US citizen born abroad) with the embassy or consulate here in Vietnam.

Once they establish your child's citizenship (based on you being the father) they can then get a US lawyer to file for child support on behalf of your US citizen child.

But if you seriously feel that you need to consult with a lawyer in Vietnam, you can send me a private message and I will give you the contact info for a lawyer in Ho Chi Minh City who is not an expert in family law but is very connected with the legal community there and will certainly refer you to someone who is competent.

Good luck!
