Hello -

Getting married in Vietnam

I have read a lot of posts along these lines but many are quite old.

Apart from all the documentation CIM passports - Brith Certificates - Health Checks

The question I still have is how long does it take?. My partner is currently liveing there and I am finishing my work contract in January of 2025. I hope to arrive Vietnam January 2025 get married and spend a few months on honeymoon.

But there seems to be a lot about the fact I have to have been in Vietnam for at least 21 days before any of the paperwork even gets started which can then take around a month.

I would like to know if anybody has any recent knowledege of the process to arrive in Vietnam. Get legally married as quick as possible and then spend time travelling on honeymoon.

thanks in advance.

By law, your required marriage registration (not your personal & optional celebration) must be processed by the provincial authority within 10 business days (Mondays thru Fridays, not counting holidays).

The provincial authority can take an extra five days in "special" cases, so 15 business days is the maximum.

So essentially three weeks.

EVERYTHING else is totally up to you and how quickly you do it (psych clearance, document translations & certifications, travel time).

You should easily be able to complete the whole process in one month or less.

One other thought: you can do a lot of traveling while you're waiting for the application to be processed.

We traveled to Quảng Ngãi to submit our application and then we flew back to HCMC/Vũng Tàu for 3 weeks before returning to pick it up.

It turned out they had completed ours in two weeks.

In your country you can go to the Embassy of Vietnam to stamp your papers and a sworn you will marry your partner (name, citizen number, address, blablabla) and a power for your partner to do any paperwork needed for the marriage registration. Send all those papers by courier to you partner in VN and  he/she can start the paperwork at the provincial authority and book the day.   You can enter to VN and get married immediately.  Don't expect to take pictures, kisses or rice, it's forbidden.  And congratulations!  don't forget to ask them for at least 4 certified copies of your marriage certificate, your will need them for your visa exchange, register your marriage in your country, banks, find a job, etc
