Registering a RHD car in Bulgaria without changing headlamps

jamespetro

Hello,

I have bought a car in UK and need to import it and register it in Bulgaria. I have permanent residence in Bulgaria. Do you know any Inspection Center / KAT that allows to do the process without changing the headlights? (using beam deflector stickers or similar). If not ... do you recommend someone that can take care of the full process?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think you are allowed to use deflector stickers if you import a car. How old is the car? Most modern cars you can manually dip the headlights on the dashboard.

Defo gotta change the headlights!

You probably need to source the correct LHD replacements yourself, and get your mechanic to swap them over (or do it yourself if you're handy). Maybe have a look on Autodoc/Avtochasti?

Once you've swapped the lights, you can take it to a big KAT yourself (Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna). Or you can hand it over to someone like BulgarianPlates (dot com) who'll deal with KAT, and bring it back with new plates.

Autodoc is great for Youtube videos on how to with cars, I went from knowing nothing to being relatively handy using their videos, saves you loads of money doing it yourself and improves your confidence in working on your own car.
