What to do if you haven't received resident cards but partner has

kyle247365

Hi,

We attended our AIMA last year October, we had our appointments at separate AIMA offices within Lisbon. I had a very helpful officer that told me he understands the addressees in the Algarve can be problematic and changed my address to the one I know I receive post on. My wife and kids did not have such a helpful officer and she refused to change the address so they could receive their residency cards. I received my resident card in February and my wife and children never did... Surprise surprise! What do we do now, I was told we have to wait for a phone call from the Lisbon office so we can go collect them, is that right? And will the phone call be a person or automated message.

Hello Kyle,

This was indeed a bad service/bad luck .... :(

You will/may receive a person call from AIMA.

But in the meantime, I would write AIMA with detailled facts and timeline.

Do it by email with all documents attached, them print them all (email included) and send them by registered mail to AIMA's president Pedro Portugal Gaspar - believe me, no letters to him are left unread.

Make sure you have all your updated contacts.

I wish you the best of luck!

I'm more likely to get to OZ hand in hand with Dorothy (Judy Garland) than this gentleman is to reply to emails...

But do you believe that? Do you know what was and still is the reality for thousands of people phoning or sending several emails daily to AIMA without getting any response ???

Only the over 12-hour blackout that all of Portugal was subjected to (28th april, since 11h33 am !!) could justify your creative message...

Believe me: no letter (physical post) sent to Pedro Portugal Gaspar  it left unread.

This is a fact.

That doesn't mean Kyle will have the problem miraculously solved.

It's good to know this, to inform the thousands and thousands of people, and a few hundred on this forum, who have been complaining daily about AIMA's incompetence since it was created following the unnecessary and incompetent dismantling of SEF...

Thousands of people who can't make an appointment...

Thousands of people with no response on visas...

Thousands of people without a way to get a family reunification...

Thousands of people unable to obtain or renew residency...

...

Please may I have link to the data supporting this "fact" as I'd not like to think you are fibbing ?

How does your fact deal with letters sent to Pedro Portugal Gaspar but being lost in the post ?

inescunhajorgetraducoes

I came to this conversation in good faith, not to be bullied.

I am leaving it for those who need resonate with that tone.

I'm not sure how Ines came by that info or if it is accurate, but also pretty sure that the responses to her info are not helpful either.

It seems like your card took a long time to arrive, and it is very concerning that your family 's cards are now MIA.

Based on what my partner and I were told at separate offices in Viseu and Aveiro in January 2025, I would suggest that you check with your post office to ensure that they haven't received any mail that may be cards for you ( and make sure that you check the correct place where your mail would be held for you, as mine was not where I expected it to be in a smallish town).

After that, we were told to go to the offices that issued our cards to see if they were there if they did not show up after 30 days ( fortunately, they did). I understand you were told something different, but we had a friend who had her appointment at yet another office in Braga who was not given this instruction, but went to check her office when we told her what the officials had told us.  Her card was indeed there.

If you choose to go check, make sure you do it in the morning, as our friend was told she could not collect it in the afternoon.

Good luck. It is ridiculous that the confusion over addresses is adding yet another barrier to the process of getting residency cards, but it seems to be a common problem....
