Experience of Healthcare in Romania

Hello all,

I wanted to start this topic for us to share experiences, both good and bad, about healthcare experiences in Romania.聽

Do you use private or state run clinics? What do you think of the services and prices?聽 How difficult is it to access certain types of care?聽 What would you recommend to a new expat in Romania?

I will add to this topic soon with my own experiences and observations, but I wanted to get the discussion started

Healthcare experiences have awful. I just found out yesterday that (while I am trying to change my family doctor) that I was registered in a small village near Oradea which I have never heard of or ever been there.

Now most likely I need to travel to that God-forsaken place to get the doctor to sign my release documents so I can register myself back with a family doctor based in Oradea.

Even CAS Bihor can't help me and they probably aren't too bothered by this either. Healthcare along with proper Customer service is about as bad as it gets here.

the healthcare here is not really nice, i am a medical student here and trust me for the public health service its not really good.
Probably the private sector is okay but then you would have to pay more.

Doctors expect payoffs to go the extra mile. Some will even ask for money in your face,聽 especially if you need surgery. And it's expensive.

One can go to a private clinic but the same doctors from the state hospital work there too, and few clinics have the staff and tools for surgery. My latest experience: I went for an easy surgery at a private clinic, talked to the doctor, asked about the prices. He said he wants to operate in the hospital because the conditions are better. He didn't even know the exact price I needed to pay for a clinic operation, probably because he never operated there.

There are probably some doctors that don't fit this description, I've heard tales but never met one
