The British in Spain

spanishartelcampello

No offence is intended here but:

I have met British people on the tram here just out from Alicante airport on their way to Benidorm. They say to me "\\e want fish and chips!". Now I am very sorry, but it seems to me that this is ignorant. The Spanish are a very proud people, with a great history and culture. Their cuisine is second to none. Wonderful indeed! Would they seriously go to a cafe in Jaywick on sea in Clacton UK, and insist on an authentic Spanish paella? This is sheer arrogance and stupidity...

I have always embraced the local culture. I have lived in Belgium and France (Paris, Brussels, Ostend and Namur). I had a short time in Germany too, Wiesbaden. I have travelled to  the Netherlands extensively as well.  I always felt more at home out here than in the UK. I am an European, and proud of this fact.

Hi Jeff .

I dont  see the point of your post ….people come to Spain for different reasons ….i guess theyve gone to Benidorm for some fun and maybe a break from the winter in the Uk.

As BD caters for rhe Brits aborad then good luck to them . Theyll be enjoying themselves and contributing to the economy in the area . Its a shame they met  someone who looks  down on them for enjoying some home comforts abroad . I recently moved to the Almeria area . Its beautiful and has multi-national residents who all contribute to the system , as well as enjoying fish and chips and also Paella ….

Get over yourself buddy

BTW ….Have you forgotten about the history of Britain ?????

Hello everyone,

I would believe that these situations happen in all countries indifferently of people's nationality.

We thank the OP for sharing his experience but I prefer closing this thread as we recommend members to share about expatriation and what could ease their move. Opening a thread based on a few people behaviour will lead to unnecessary arguments on the forum.

Thank you

Bhavna
