Can I get hired in Spain while living abroad ?

Laflaire

Hey everyone,

I'm a European citizen currently working in customer service and planning to move to Spain, specifically Barcelona. A friend of mine offered to host me and will provide a declaración de hospedaje (declaration of hospitality), so I can apply for the white NIE and start job hunting locally.

I was almost hired recently by a company in Spain, but they eventually rejected me because I wasn't living in Barcelona yet. I've noticed that many companies seem to discard my application for that reason, even though I have the right to live and work in Spain as an EU citizen.

Has anyone here gone through something similar? I don't have the financial means to apply for the green NIE without a work contract, so my plan is to move, get the white NIE, and look for a job on the ground.

I’m determined not to give up – any tips, experiences, or advice would be super appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Companies tent to like you be in the country so you can be called for an interview.

Why don't you just go and move in with your friend and search for jobs  there. You will probably have better luck because you will be able to say I can see you today, instead of no end of phone calls back and forth, the same with emails.
