Spain Health Insurance for an 80 year old

pamelareadingsmith

I am an 80 year old American planning on moving to the city of Valencia to live closer to my son and his Valancian wife.  I wish to apply for a non-lucrative visa which requires Spain health insurance policy and so far this is proving to be near impossible.  Has anyone, in my age bracket, acquired health insurance?

Can you give me more information?  Is it possible for an 80 year old expat to get insurance in Spain?

I suggest that it might be easier for your son (and/or daughter-in-law) to go to their local insurance broker and see if they can obtain a policy for you.

Additionally, there are two other options that might be possible and therefore worth investigating. Your son (and his wife) have health insurance of some kind, and perhaps they can get additional cover for you. Potentially, your son could also apply for Family Reunification, rather than you applying for an NLV in your own right. Early this year, I did this in Bulgaria (another EU country, so the rules should be fairly similar) for my 96 year old father. This has advantages, including applying in Spain during your 90 days visa-free allowance.

I believe DKV has a policy Integral Elite which has no age limits and is "suitable for Visa & Residency applications". I think it's 1,540 euros for over 76.
