Switching from an employment visa to an investor visa

Possam

Hi everyone, thank you for always sharing your info here!

I have some questions.

I am leaving my current company, where I have worked for less than a year, and starting my own company in the IT industry. My current employment visa expires on August 22. I am using an agent to set up my company(I didn't know it's not recommended here tbh).

Condition:

  • I already live in Bahrain.
  • I have a bank account here and a 6 months bank statement.
  • I have a CPR card.
  • I don't have NOC from my current employer.
  • My wife lives here with a dependent visa.

My concern is that the company's establishment and the visa issuance for me and my wife will not be completed within the 30 days Grace Period. Since my current employer did not give me a NOC, I can only start the company formation and visa process on the 23rd (I have already paid half of the fee to the agent, and they have begun the security clearance and other formalities).

I understand that to extend the Grace Period, and I need to submit the information of my next employer (in my case, my company) to the NPRA or LMRA(?).

I don't think the process of establishing a company and issuing visas for both of us will be completed within 30 days, so I would like to go to the NPRA immediately after the 23rd to extend our Grace Period, but if I am preparing to start a business and have not completed the establishment of my company, (1) can I still extend my Grace Period?

Also, in a past post by Mr. XTang, he said that if I have not renewed my CPR when I leave the company, my CPR is tied to my previous employer, and I need to submit a NOC to MOIC even if my visa is canceled. (2) To avoid this, should I renew my CPR before my visa expires?

It would be very helpful if you could help me with these. Thanks!

Grace period you can apply for regardless.  CPR renewal has nothing to do with changing your employment status.  In the system, you will still be under your employer unless or until you switch or leave.

@XTang

Thank you for your answer.

My biggest concern was whether or not we can successfully get the grace period extended. But it seems not a big issue just to extend the grace period, unlike I thought. My agent also said they can just go to NPRA with our passports and ask the officers for an extension. It takes only 10 mins.

So my current plan is to complete the company formation process asap and start the work permit application afterward. If it takes longer than 30 days, I ask the agent to extend the grace period not to stay here illegally.

Once completed, I'll share the result here. Thanks again.

Good luck.  Yes grace period is not a big deal as I said.

Hi there, I just finished almost all the steps without big issues.

I share what I’ve experienced for those in a similar situation.

- My agent completed the incorporation of the corporation within a month.

- Activating the bank account should be handled as the last step as it requires a valid visa.

- The renewal of the grace period was done retroactively. In other words, after the grace period expired, I asked a Bahraini with whom my agent is affiliated to extend the clearance and the period.

- I applied for a visa to LMRA on the last day of my grace period, but my application was returned on the grounds that I needed an extension of the grace period.

- The day after I retroactively extended the grace period, the status of my visa application was changed to Await Payment.

@Possam

Now you have to make the visa payment and it's done .

Thanks
