How Do You Break An Awkward Silence?

I try using all what I can think of until the other person comes back to me. However some on on this site has taken an oath not to break her silence with me :-(

I don't try to break an awkward silence because some people just space out and they need time to come back to reality.
as the awkward silence is usually due to one of my rather bad dad jokes i just carry on digging a bigger hole ha ha ha and hope someone will help me out of it....enter my lovely wife he he he

not really strange but i had a clove tea in a yemeni resturant when in dubia last month.
i would never have thought of putting cloves in tea...apple pie maybe but not tea lol..

1. Freedom (I'm 42 and never married)
2. Travel (been living/teaching overseas for 10 years now)
3. Cooking (I love being in the kitchen making delicious food)
4. My pug (but I'll have to leave her in America while in Saudi)
5. Reading (English major still reading all the classics)
