Any Brits moved from another EU country to Bulgaria post Brexit?

grumpyoldbird

I'll be moving to Bulgaria from France later this year. My S1 is registered to my French address, but if I change it to a Bulgarian address before I leave France, I won't have health cover until its registered in Bulgaria.

I will need to produce my S1 for the visa appointment, but it will have my French address on it.

Has anyone with an S1 moved from another EU country and if so what did do about the S1 for your visa appointment?

Good to hear that your plans are still going ahead. I cannot answer your question but it is good to hear from you again.

I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that as long as you have a valid S1, the current address shouldn't be an issue.

I hope the process all goes smoothly for you!

Thanks Kath. It's been a bit of a long winded process, but hopefully I'm getting there. 😊

Hi Jane, I could do with finding the answer, because I really don't want to pay for my French one to be notarised and apostilled and then find out they won't accept it. There are so many grey areas and it seems impossible to get a definitive answer. 🙄

Surely the Bulgarian consulate nearest to you in France could answer your question? 🙂

I found the Bulgarian Embassy really helpful if you have a query and they have an email address on their website.

I'd imagine your current S1 and a note regarding the change of address (i.e. you need medical coverage in France, but you'll update it to your Bulgaria address when you get your D visa and move here) would be accepted.

Also, the S1 has a date when you move. You could date it when you expect to move rather than today. (The embassy will spot if the date is after your appointment, but again you could explain it and hope it's OK.)

They'd also accept the usual Bulgarian Health Insurance for Foreigners (still very inexpensive), and perhaps your GHIC/EHIC.
