If you have nothing invested in Colombia, dont worry about it. Seriously.

And hopefully learned your lesson and wont marry again

I know.all types of lawyers, most dont speak English

Only English speaking ones I know.are Langon in Medellin

I know a Spanish soeaking lawyer in Cali who.might be able to help you, but I dont know if he practices anymore..Quite a few  years since I dealt with him.last

You mean just walk away as if a marriage never happened?

That hardly seems fair to the woman.

Yes given the correct circumstances and the OP objectives it could be the best and many times the only workable solution to "just walk away as if the marriage never happened", just depends on a variety of factors.

Lets face it the marriage ceremony and commitments/promises/loyalty/sharing/respect hold almost zero value in today's world and especially so in Colombia.

So to the OP, as nico peligro eluded to, here are some considerations that only you can answer and consider to find the best solution:

  1. Where where you married? In Colombia or abroad? Which city if in Colombia? If in Colombia was it recorded at the notary?
  2. Do you have any assets in Colombia? Any houses, cars, motorcycles, Colombian bank accounts in your name?
  3. Any children borne into this union?
  4. Length of marriage? Any prenup?
  5. At the present time do you hold a Colombian visa, cedula, or do you ever plan to return visit to Colombia at a future date and apply for a visa?
  6. Is your estranged wife willing to work with you/your attorney to process the divorce?
  7. Do you have mixed assets abroad? This will be very problematic to unwind.

I have seen much in my 35 years exploring Colombia with almost 15 of those years in Medellin, both first hand experience and many of my gringo and Colombian friends who have gone through it all, I could write a book of what I have learned/experienced first hand and seen unfold.

Godspeed!

You wanna be fair?

Just give her. what you think she deserves and satisfies your conscience.

Its only a piece of paper after.all.

This assumes you have no assets in Colombia that cant be quickly liquidated
